BICA CPE Seminars February 3rd & 4th, 2010

The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) held a two day Continuing Professional Education Seminar (CPE) at the British Colonial Hotel on Wednesday February 3rd and Thursday February 4th, 2010. Speakers included Mr. Lawrence Lewis, Partner, Deloitte & Touche, Mrs. Rowena Bethel, Executive Commissioner, The Compliance Commission, Mr. Kevin Demerritte, The Central bank of the Bahamas, Mrs. Sharyln Smith, Sharon Wilson & Co., Mr. Stephen Thompson, Inspector, The Compliance Commission, Mr. Lawrence Lewis, Partner, Deliotte & Touche, Mr. Reece Chipman President of BICA and Ms. Tanya Rahming Institute Executive Officer. The Seminars addressed key issues affecting the Accounting Profession globally. The revised codes of Practice for Accountants were addressed by Mrs. Rowena Bethel. She noted that in order for the Bahamas to remain competitive in the Financial sector we must continue to regulate and update the laws to facilitate the global market. The new Institute Executive Officer gave a presentation on the Seven Statement of Membership Obligation (SMOâs) that BICA has embraced as a member of IFAC. The Institute has committed to holding education seminars every month for its members and the general public.
