Member

To become a Member you must be eighteen years of age or older, of good character and  either, a citizen of The Bahamas, a permanent resident with the right to engage in gainful occupation or a permanent resident holding a valid work permit.

You must also:

  • be a member in good standing of an approved institute (refer to the Second Schedule of the BICA Act, 2015) or have satisfied the requirements for admission to membership in an approved institute;
  • have passed the prescribed examinations as Council may require;
  • provide evidence that you have been in continuous employment for two years or more with either a firm of public accountants or a public corporation, a government department or a private business that has provided training in accounting and
  • satisfy such other requirements as may be prescribed.

OR

  • have passed the prescribed qualifying examinations of the Institute;
  • provide evidence that you have been in continuous employment for two years or more with either a firm of public accountants or a public corporation, a government department or a private business that has provided training in accounting;
  • hold a Bachelor’s degree from an institution approved by Council and
  • satisfy such other requirements as may be prescribed.

A registered Member may use the designation “Chartered Accountant” and the initials “C.A.” after his/her name.

To Apply for Registration as a Member

  • Submit the completed application form with:
    • one passport size photograph;
    • where applicable, a letter from the secretary of the approved institute confirming that you are a member in good standing in that institute or confirming that you have satisfied the academic and professional requirements for admission to membership in the approved Institute;
    • proof of citizenship or permanent residency with the right to engage in gainful employment;
    • letter confirming continuous employment for two years or more with either a firm of public accountants or a public corporation, a government department or a private business that has provided training in accounting;
    • where applicable, a certified copy of a certificate from a university or institution approved by the Council or such other qualifying certification in accordance with BICA (General) Regulations section 3(2)((b) and
    • payment of the Membership application fee (see Schedule of Fees).
